Gift Aid is a UK government tax relief scheme that allows charities to claim tax paid on donations. Essentially, for every donation you make, HM Revenue and Customs will top it up with the income tax and/or capital gains tax you paid on the value of that gift.

When you sign up to Gift Aid, The Humane Research Trust can reclaim 25p from the UK government for every £1 you donate. 

Additionally, if you’re a higher rate taxpayer, you can claim the difference between the higher tax rate you pay and the basic tax rate that we reclaim in your Self-Assessment.

The Gift Aid scheme helps us raise even more money to fund animal-free research. By just ticking a box, you can boost your contribution without it costing you a penny.

To be eligible, you must be a UK taxpayer. This means you pay tax either on your salary, pension, savings, investments, or capital gains.

You must pay at least the same amount in income tax and/or capital gain tax over the course of the tax year to cover the amount that we and other charities you donate to will reclaim via Gift Aid.

For example, if you donate £100 to charity in one tax year, you must have paid at least £25 in income tax and/or capital gains tax in that period to be eligible for Gift Aid.

To enable us to claim Gift Aid on the donations you make, simply tick the Gift Aid option when you donate online, or complete our Gift Aid declaration form below.
