Join our Board of Trustees

Are you looking for the opportunity to take on a new challenge, give something back to the community and develop new skills? Joining our Board of Trustees could help you achieve your goals and use your skills to make a difference to both human health and the wellbeing of animals.

We are looking for two enthusiastic individuals to join our Board. Specifically, we are looking for:

  • one trustee with a background in fundraising
  • one trustee with a current or recent background in medical research

About you 

We welcome applications from all walks of life; the main criteria are that you care about our cause and understand what being a trustee involves. You must be 18 years or older.

What you’d be doing

The statutory duties of a trustee are to:

  • ensure THRT complies with its constitution, the law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • ensure THRT pursues its objects as defined in its constitution
  • ensure THRT uses its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects.
  • Contribute actively to the oard of trustees' role in setting strategy, defining goals and evaluating performance
  • safeguard the good name and values of the Trust
  • ensure the effective and efficient administration of THRT
  • ensure the financial stability of the organisation
  • protect and manage the property of the charity and to ensure its proper use for charitable purposes

In addition, you would join either the Board's marketing & fundraising sub-committee or the Board’s science sub-committee to advise THRT on its work.

The trustee role is voluntary and unpaid. It is for three years with the possibility of re-election for a further three years.

Practical considerations

  • The Board holds four 4-hour board meetings a year, usually on a Friday. Trustees are encouraged to attend in person and all reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
  • The Board has four sub-committees that each meet up to four times a year via MS Teams. Trustees are required to join a minimum of one sub-committee as befits their interests and expertise, and may be asked to chair a sub-committee
